Does this mean rock-n-roll really is dead?

I noticed that AC/DC is going to sell their upcoming record exclusively at Wal-Mart.

Those of you who are regular readers of this blog may recall my last (and final) experience at Wal-Mart.

          AC/DC. Wal-Mart.

          Highway to Hell. Wal-Mart.

          Bon Scott. Wal-Mart.

          Brian Johnson. Wal-Mart.

          Angus Young. Wal-Mart.

For Those About To Rock, (FIRE!) We Sa-lute You. Wal-Mart.

          Gibson SG. Wal-Mart.

The guys who added bagpipes to the rock lexicon are selling their next record at Wal-Mart.

Check out the video and correct me if I'm wrong:

Something's just not coming together here for me . . .

          AC/DC exclusively at Wal-Mart?

So... I am assuming it's a gospel album?

Yes. This means rock-n-roll is officially dead. Someone mark the time.

Fans take the attitude that musicians are artists and care about their craft like it were a child. That's silly. Maybe their songs don't mean as much to them as they do to you.

I used to think you cared about the law until you got a job at McKeen Associates. That's when I realized you'd sold out and it wasn't about the legal system at all.

          See? That's just sounds stupid.

It's the way of the world my friend. I saw a headline about it yesterday but didn't read the article. Expect more to follow.

Hmmm... someone doesn't like you but is too much of a pussy to reveal themselves. Grow a set Anon.

DW: Yep, that must be it: Gospel Rock!

cathleen: You've called the time with your comment. 7:34 A.M. on June 10, 2008.

Anon: Interestingly, I wouldn't call it a sell-out so much as disconnected or schizophrenic.

I tend to associate Wal-Mart with mass-produced, generic, utilitarian things designed to be sold cheaply. AC/DC to the contrary evokes dirty, gritty, reckless, rebellious rock-n-roll.

Though I can certainly see why Wal-Mart would want to have AC/DC improve its image, I don't get why AC/DC can't do better elsewhere.

Finn: Ha! The anonymous trolls make some weird comments, don't they? What's silly is that I'm doing exactly the same thing at my current gig as I did at my former, so there ain't much of a basis for connecting my job change with a change in philosophy.

Though I'm glad for the opportunity to help individual clients in my day job, the work of changing the system is mostly done outside of work on a volunteer basis.

To Quote Cheech and Chong in "Earache my Eye ! "

they " only know three cords "

          It's not art , much like the art fair(s), it's merchandise ....

and don't you forget it ...

There are many that do the work , and perform ,for the works sake ...

          not to many though ...

I think on good example of doing it for the arts sake , would be at www.thayrone.com or on waam 1600 am sunday eves at 7 pm ...truly free form radio and music ...!

Anon: Any link between adding "bagpipes to the rock lexicon" and the concept of high art was purely unintentional and coincidental on my part.

As to what the definition of art may be, I would have to defer to the likes of Immanuel Kant and perhaps Aristotle to flesh that out a bit more.

Yesterday, I visited Wal-mart. It was finally time to let my kids cash in their Christmas gift cards. I hate that place and avoid it like the plague.

But, I was so busy thinking about how quickly I wanted to get out of Wal-mart, that I somehow forgot to pick up my copy of the AC/DC album! And the kids forgot theirs, too!

          Damn.
